I wish many general public will be albe to read this post..... Reason being... I wanna share the problems happening daily in AnE.... What I called the AnE abusing....
Before I started working in AnE, I always thought that AnE missy and Drs are cool and being respect... but when days goes by... im more and more OLD BIRD here... I really can feel that we are being ABUSED every single minute....
Let me share about one inncident happened when I worked as R1 last week.
*Telephone: Ring Ring....
*Me: Hello, good afternoon, SGH AnE R1, Staff Nurse Patrick, How can I help you?
*Caller: Code Blue ar... send ur ambulance to NCC now~~~!!!
*Me: Hmmm Excuse me sir, may I know where are you calling from? and what do u mean by code blue?
*Caller: Ya... patient collapsed... send ur ambulance to NCC NOW~~!!
*Me: Sir, so you want ambulance or my field team?
*Caller: Huh? You got a team? Good, send them over....
*Me: May I know who am I speaking to?
*Caller: I'm XXXXX Manager from NCC Clinic ZZZZZ
Hang up
Immediately I call back to the department.
*Me: Do you all wanna call for Field team? Since your patient collapsed...
*Female: Huh? Really? Wait huh... I call my Staff nurse... (Back Ground Noise: STAFF NURSE so and so)
*SN So n So: Hello, Staff Nurse So n So speaking.
*Me: Staff, is there a patient collapsed? If that's the case, can you activate Field team? By calling the operator.
*SN So n So: HUH? Simi FEW GIM?
*Me: NOT FEW GIM, but to call for field team... you need to call operator to activate it. However I've gather my team and sending them over to your side soon.
*SN So n So: Oh, call FEW GIM for the team is it?
*Me: (Almost fainted).... No, Staff, is to press "0" and activate field team, since you need use to send the team over.
*SN So n So: Oh, the ambulance is it? Ok Ok, I will call, but who's FEW GIM?
*Me: Staff~~~!!!! NOT FEW GIM but Field Team.
*SN So n So: Paused........... what talking you?
(By then, my team is ready to go.)
*Me: Is ok... forget it, we are coming over now.
My supervisor asked me to go with the team, as I'm one of the simi senior on shift that day... we rushed down to NCC, running up the stairs. On arrival, we saw the clerks sitting there and chatting. I asked: Where's the patient collapsed???
The clerk, replied. Oh, here, follow me... is in room 10...
We carry all the equipments, dashed into Room 10, outside Room 10, there were many relatives sitting outside and of course, all of them look shocked and worried... Giving that kind of... WHO ARE THESE FELLOWS~~~??? Look...
Door open* And we saw a patient still alive and breathing...
NCC Dr: Oh, you guys r here to take over us? You all are SLOW~!!!
Our AnE Team: ???? Blurred and confused???? SLOW???? we spend less than 5 mins to come out and reached NCC.... SLOW???
NCC SSN: Oh, since you guys are here, help us take over the case and send to ward.
AnE Team: ?????? WHAT???
NCC Dr: Aren't you guys are here to transfer patient to the ward???
AnE Team: Totally blurred...... and like... arr.....
After clarification, we realised... the NCC pple just need our transport....... and just for their convenience, they just called AnE for FUN...
For those who got no idea what are those terms used...
R1 is a position to gather man power in the AnE dept, assign them to send alive or dead cases, of cos, when someone need any medical support, AnE will send a team consist of Dr and Nurses, called the FIELD TEAM.
Field team will then give 1st aid and take patient back to AnE for further treatment.
Anyway, TTSH, my former training ground, is a very nice hospital, but due to it location, there are always too many caes send to them. Therefore, whenever TTSH (Hotel 4) is in mad house, they will declare FULL HOUSE. What will happen next? SGH ( HOTEL 1) Will get the blast and we will become HELL HOLE. Also, SGH will never declare full house... and we will recieve ambulance cases till running out of trolleys.
If any of you happen to visit SGH AnE these few days... you can see it is really like a refugees camp. Relatives all complain.... No one attended to my mum, ba ba ba...
As a medical staff, I cant turn them down, but why can't the public understand that the Singapore population is aging... many and many pple fall sicks... And as hmmm, I'd say is Human, not only Singaporean, are selfish and like to complain...
Everyone think that they are sick and important... Some of them just never realise their so called ILL is not that ill....
Always I can hear pple say this at my work... What Kind of AnE? Wait for so LONG still no Dr... ba ba ba.... What to do? some of the cases being brought down are really NOT that sick... I never say that is NOT sick... but not that critical...
Ever when I worked at Triage... this lady brought in the mother and matched into my triage room... Nurse, my mum is dying, she cannot breath... at that time, I was attending to another patient... so wat to do? I got no choice, but to see the "DYING" Patient....
*Me: Mdm So n So, what happened to you?
*Patent's daughter: She cannot breath, very breathless... ba ba ba
*Me: (trying to measure her vita sign) When did your breathless start?
*Patient: 1 month lor....
*Me: (Almost get stroke..... and look at the address... somewhere near Jurong island and asked the daughter) Aunty, Breathless for a month and you bring her to hospital today? Did you all come out from her house?
Patient daughter: (a little pai seh) huh? arrr.... ya... from home
*Me: You said that your mum is breathless, why dont you bring her to the nearest hospital? it should be NUH right?
Patient daughter: hmmm... sorry la... dunno ma... tot SGH better...
Well, this is just a little eg what we are tasting everyday....
When we send patients to ward... the ward staffs are even worst.... Ward Missy never understand that, no matter how busy they are, there's still a limit... meaning, 6 beds means only 6 patients. there is no way to develop no. 7 or no. 8 patient in that room.
But AnE is diff... we just keep on receiving pt... sigh....
Sad Right? Pretty depress leh.... Esp when our colls get scolded by some ridiculous relatives, who r just simply GUILTY... cos somehow, they never bring their loved one for treatment when there's a problem occur... they hardly look at their parents... So when their family members are sick... they suddenly become very caring...
Dun sue me hor~~~~!!!!

pat, I would like to add some comments.. would like to tell u..sometimes its not ward Staff we DUn wan to receive patients, sometimes our beds are not ready , not yet cleaned and u want to send patient up, of course we wont want the patient to wait at the corridor..rite..we will try to expediate the cleaning but in ward there are also cases whereby its a discharge bed and we couldnt possible chase those existing patients out..its pretty unfair to them as they had already PAID for the BED..
I m not trying to pinpoint anyone, i just hope, if everyone were to give in a little, it will be easy for everyone.. but i guess its pretty difficult..
I also understand singaporeans relatives, sometimes they can be unreasonable and demanding, its not that i nv encounter before, so i understand you.
I just hope one day things might turn out to be better for everyone..
and i hope u do understand our ward staffs situations too..thanks
